Service an food is upstanding the rice an sweet sour pork was on point love it recommended this dish
The food here is always good. My regular order whenever I'm in Fresno is: Shanghai dumplings (2 orders with a side of red vinegar), 1 order steamed bbq pork baos, 1 order egg custard baos. I first ate here during undergrad and for the next 5 years. Love it!
My go-to spot for dim sum. I usually go shortly after opening at 10:30 so it's pretty easy to snag a table. But it usually gets moderately busy by noon. There are tables for both smaller and large parties. The service is prompt. They have a decent dim sum menu and also have another extensive menu for larger plates. My sister and I usually split 4-5 dim sum plates and end up spending about $25 each (with tip). Our favorites are the harkow, siu mai, fried shrimp balls fried sticky rice and pork belly. Everything is served fresh and hot. It's always a satisfying meal.
We tried as much as we possibly could off of the dim sum menu. Favorites were the soup dumpling, noodle rolls, pork belly, deep fried Shrimp rolls and the salt and pepper Shrimp. The combo chop suey Chow mein was also flavorful. You know the food is going to be good when they have the large tables with the lazy Suzanne in the middle and traditional Chinese decor. We went on valentines day and despite how busy they were we still received excellent service. New city Chinese is definitely worth trying and after years of wanting to go I'm glad I finally did.
We love to eat soup during the cold winter season. There is just something about the warm, flavorful taste of the soup. For the first time I ordered the War (sp) Wonton Soup from New City Chinese Restaurant. Restaurants usually have a unique interpretation of soups you order. This restaurant version of the soup was very hardy. Lots of shrimp, chicken and multiple vegetables. The broth was rich, tasty and strong. It fit with the restaurants version of the War Wonton Soup. It's a very filling soup. It really took the chill out of a cold evening. Yum!
The service here is great! The ambiance is nice and cozy for all groups. The food a different than typical American style Chinese cuisine
The CHINISE food here is AMAZING compared to the bay area. Portions and size of dim sum are HUGE. Everything tastes great. Such a large selection that you can try something new every time. There's a mistake in DoorDash tho. Their half order and full order duck is same price. I ordered Duck meal - bomb so gooood Shu Mai - pork dumplings HUGE and flavorful Har Kow - shrimp dumplings, must eat as don't taste good next day Fried rice - good can't fail this Run don't walk! No pics because my fat self ate it all before i could remember!
I came here for dim sum / lunch on new years days. The restaurant was super packed!!! Every time I've driven by here it hasn't looked that busy, but it was so busy on new years day. They seated us pretty quickly even though they were packed, they did warn us it would take about 20 min for the food to come out because they were so busy but we had no problems waiting that long. We ordered many items from the menu, beef rice roll, egg on top of beef chow fun with gai lan ,siu mai ( beef dumpling ) , tripe, hau gau ( shrimp dumpling ) , hong shau rou ( shanghai braised pork belly) . The beef rice noodle came out first and it was so delicious and such a large portion!! If I had known the food was going to be such large portions we would have ordered less. The siu mai and har gow were also huge. The steamed tripe was so fresh and soft. I also really enjoyed the beef chow fun with the egg on top. It was very tasty and the egg was smooth and savory. We really enjoyed our meal and cannot wait to come back.
Craving some dim sum for the new Lunar Year that just passed on Wednesday, Year of the Snake 2025! Ordered to go since there's been a bug going around lately. I usually go to Imperial Garden but there was a convenient online ordering I used to order for my parents. My mom said it was just as good as any dim sum restaurant here in Fresno. She really liked the hot and sour soup because there's more ingredients inside the soup. I had to order myself some dim sum also but it was so busy that I couldn't order the same items as I did for my parents. It's that busy so the food has good traffic flow. I ate there once a while ago and they have the large round family size tables with the spinning lazy Susan in the middle. Dim sum for the new year is always a must for our cultural celebrations to bring on luck, wealth and prosperity.
Had a nice Dim Sum brunch on a Saturday morning in November. We arrived just as they were opening and there were a few other people seated but as we got closer to noon-it started to fill up. This is definitely a local favorite. We had 3 dim sum dishes, all good, but my favorite was the potstickers. I'd like a few other of their dumplings next time. The pork bun wasn't my fav but Ben enjoyed it and said it tasted like most bbq pork baos. Very friendly service. The dining room is large and has a very elegant, large party vibe. I'd love to bring a big group here to celebrate.
